Taxonomy
Orithopsis was named by Carter (1872). Its type is Orithopsis bonneyi. It is the type genus of Orithopsidae.
It was assigned to Necrocarcinidae by Collins (2002); and to Orithopsidae by Schweitzer et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010), van Bakel et al. (2012), Karasawa et al. (2014), Schweitzer et al. (2016) and Schweitzer et al. (2018).
