Linguaphillipsia was named by Stubblefield (1948) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 624]. It is not extant. Its type is Linguaphillipsia terapaiensis. It is the type genus of Linguaphillipsiinae.
It was assigned to Linguaphillipsiinae by Hahn et al. (1996); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Phillipsiidae by Hahn et al. (2013).
