Mimia toombsi was named by Gardiner and Bartram (1977). It is not extant. Its type locality is Fitzroy Crossing, which is in a Frasnian carbonate siltstone/limestone in the Gogo Formation of Australia.
It was recombined as Mimipiscis toombsi by Choo (2012).
