Paraostenia was named by Secretan (1985) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call Sepkoski's reference number: 619]. It is not extant. Its type is Paraostenia voultensis.
It was assigned to Conchyliocarida by Sepkoski (2002); to Dollocarididae by Schram (2014); and to Thylacocephala by Laville et al. (2021).
