Actinotocarcinus was named by Jenkins (1974) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-m]. It is not extant. Its type is Actinotocarcinus chidgeyi. It is the type genus of Actinotocarcininae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Majidae by Jenkins (1974), Feldmann and Keys (1992), Feldmann et al. (2006); to Epialtinae by Schweitzer et al. (2010); and to Actinotocarcininae by Feldmann (1993), Schweitzer et al. (2020).
