Taxonomy
Cancer mascarone was named by Herbst (1785). It is extant. It is the type species of Ethusa.

It was recombined as Ethusa mascarone by De Angeli and Beschin (2008), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2021).
