Lobocarcinus was named by Reuss (1857) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Eo-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Cancer paulinowuerttemburgensis. It is the type genus of Lobocarcininae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lobocarcininae by Anderson and Feldmann (1995), Feldmann and Fordyce (1996), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2000), Collins (2002), Schweitzer et al. (2004), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2019).
