Taxonomy
Loxorynchus was named by Stimpson (1857). It is extant. Its type is Loxorhynchus grandis.

It was corrected as Loxorhynchus by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2020).

It was assigned to Maioidea by Stimpson (1862); to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Majidae by Rathbun (1926), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2002); and to Pisinae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Schweitzer et al. (2020).
