Taxonomy
Micromaia was named by Bittner (1875) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m-l T Ol-l]. Its type is Micromaia tuberculata. It is the type genus of Micromaiinae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Majidae by Muller and Collins (1991), Beschin et al. (1994), Beschin et al. (2006), De Angeli and Beschin (2008); and to Micromaiinae by Quayle and Collins (1981), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2010), Beschin et al. (2012), Schweitzer et al. (2020).
