Chasmocarcininae was named by Serene (1964). It is extant. Its type is Chasmocarcinus.
It was assigned to Goneplacidae by Feldmann and Wilson (1988), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001), Karasawa and Kato (2003), Collins et al. (2003), Schweitzer and Karasawa (2004) and Schweitzer et al. (2004); and to Chasmocarcinidae by Schweitzer et al. (2010), Luque et al. (2017) and Schweitzer et al. (2022).
It was assigned to Goneplacidae by Feldmann and Wilson (1988), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2001), Karasawa and Kato (2003), Collins et al. (2003), Schweitzer and Karasawa (2004) and Schweitzer et al.
