Trichopeltarion was named by Milne Edwards (1880) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Trichopeltarioidea, Trichopeltariidae.
It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Atelecyclidae by Feldmann and Keys (1992), Schweitzer and Feldmann (1999), Schweitzer and Salva (2000), Schweitzer et al. (2010), Luque et al. (2017); and to Trichopeltariidae by Tavares and Cleva (2010), Schweitzer and Feldmann (2019).
