Hylaeochelys latiscutata
Taxonomy
Pleurosternon latiscutatum was named by Owen (1853). Its type specimen is DORCM G.20, a shell (large carapace visible in external aspect), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Swanage/Purbeck (DORCM/BMNH) [C. Willcox Collection], which is in a Berriasian fluvial-lacustrine limestone in the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Hylaeochelys.
It was recombined as Pleurosternum latiscutatum by Owen (1853); it was recombined as Hylaeochelys latiscutatum by Lydekker (1889); it was recombined as Hylaeochelys latiscutata by Lydekker (1889), Delair (1958), Milner (2004); it was synonymized subjectively with Hylaeochelys belli by Pérez-García (2012).
