Taxonomy
Baena affinis was named by Leidy (1871). Its type specimen is ANSP 10055, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Church Buttes, which is in a Bridgerian terrestrial horizon in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.
It was synonymized subjectively with Baena arenosa by Leidy (1873), Hay (1902), Hay (1908) and Gaffney (1972).
