Taxonomy
Mesodon discoides was named by Woodward (1890). Its type specimen is BMNH P.524, a partial skull (vomer), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Little Gibraltar, near Oxford (BMNH Coll.), which is in a Bathonian marine horizon in the United Kingdom.
