Taxonomy
Akmonistion zangerli was named by Coates and Sequeira (2001). Its type specimen is UCMZ 8246, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Shrimp bed, Bearsden locality, which is in a Pendleian marine shale in the Manse Burn Formation of the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Akmonistion.
