Taxonomy
Pecten pontiamnis was named by McLearn (1942). Its type specimen is GSC 9437 and is a mold. Its type locality is 7500 feet north of Tyaughton creek, which is in a Rhaetian marine siliciclastic in the Tyaughton Formation of Canada.
