Elonichthys semistriatus was named by Traquair (1877). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Knowles Ironstone, Fenton, which is in a Moscovian mire/swamp ironstone in the Pennine Middle Coal Measures Formation of the United Kingdom.
