Hondathentes cazador

Hondathentes cazador was named by Dumont and Brown (1997) [Holotype: IGM 250440, fragmentary right dentary with p3-m2 Etymology: Named for El Cazador, a mythical hunter of the Grand Tolim region of Colombia]. Its type specimen is IGM 250440, a mandible (fragmentary right dentary with p3-m2), and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Hondathentes.

E. R. Dumont and T. M. Brown 1997Small paleothentid about the size of Paleothentes minutus. Differs from paleothentes and resembles Acdestis in lacking and anterobasal cuspule on lower p3, in having a lower m1 with anterolingually (not anteriorly) orientated paracrista, and in lacking bifurcation of the lower m1 paraconid. Differs from Acdestis and resembles Paleothentes in having the lower p3 crown as tall as the m1 paraconid, and peripherally dispersed lingual cusps. Differs from both Paleothentes and Acdestis in having a posteriorly broad-basined p3, a relatively transverse anterolingually posterolabially oriented m1 paracristid, m1 and m2 that are exodaenodont and lack an entoconid notch, and a upper M1 postprotocrista that is confluent with the anterior margin of the hypocone plataform.
