Glyptomena was named by Cooper (1956). It is not extant. Its type is Glyptomena sculpturata. It is the type genus of Glyptomenidae.
It was assigned to Glyptomeninae by Mitchell (1977), Williams et al. (2000); and to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002).
