Saurichthys macrocephalus
Taxonomy
Belonorhynchus macrocephalus was named by Deecke (1889). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Quarry between Varenna and Regoledo, Perledo (SMF collection), which is in a Longobardian marine limestone in the Perledo-Varenna Formation of Italy.
It was synonymized subjectively with Belonorhynchus robustus by de Alessandri (1910); it was recombined as Saurichthys macrocephalus by Rieppel (1985) and López-Arbarello et al. (2014).
