Taxonomy
Saurichthys piveteaui was named by Beltan (1968). Its type specimen is 286, a partial skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Ambilobe area (MNHN fish), which is in a Dienerian marine siliciclastic in Madagascar.
