Goniatites uniangularis was named by Conrad (1842). Its type specimen is AMNH 5476/1, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Tornoceras (Tornoceras) uniangulare by House (1965); it was recombined as Tornoceras uniangulare by Korn and Klug (2002), House and Kirchgasser (2008).
