Taxonomy
Carcharodon tembloris was named by Jordan (1926). Its type specimen is CAS 1843, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Sharktooth Hill, which is in a Langhian shoreface siltstone in the Temblor Formation of California.
