Saltasaurini was named by Salgado and Bonaparte (2007). Its type is Saltasaurus. It was considered monophyletic by Otero and Reguero (2013).
It was assigned to Titanosauria by Gallina and Otero (2015); and to Saltasaurinae by Otero and Reguero (2013) and Navarro et al. (2022).
