Endennasaurus was named by Renesto (1984). Its type is Endennasaurus acutirostris.
It was assigned to Thalattosauriformes by Nicholls (1999), Liu and Rieppel (2005); to Askeptosauridae by Müller (2007); and to Askeptosauroidea by Wu et al. (2009).
