Taxonomy
Leptophractus lineolatus was named by Cope (1877). Its type specimen is AMNH 6828 (formerly Newberry 1086/1087G), a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.
It was recombined as Megalocephalus lineolatus by Baird (1957).
