Taxonomy
Thylacinidae was named by Bonaparte (1838). It is not extant. It was considered monophyletic by Wroe (1996).
It was assigned to Marsupialia by Bonaparte (1850); to Dasyura by Ameghino (1891); to Marsupicarnivora by Marshall (1974); to Dasyuroidea by Krajewski et al. (1992), Wroe (1996), McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Dasyuromorphia by Nowak (1991), Springer et al. (1994), Dawson et al. (1999), Yates (2015), Rovinsky et al. (2019).
