Nautilus splendens was named by Blanford (1861).

It was recombined as Eutrephoceras splendens by Wiedmann (1960), Shimansky (1975); it was recombined as Kummeloceras splendens by Matsumoto (1983); it was recombined as Kummelonautilus splendens by Matsumoto (1984).
