Foveasporis areapunctatis was named by Stuchlik (1981) [Holotype: Pl. III 12, 13; Slide: Antarctica Loc. 15; 6a (91.5/10.7). Other specimen Pl. IV 1,2; Slide: Antarctica, Loc. 15; 6a (87.4/18.5).
Locus typicus: Admiralty Bay, King George Island (South Shetland Islands, Antarctica).]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type species of Foveasporis.
