Taxonomy
Molgophis macrurus was named by Cope (1868). Its type specimen is No holotype designated and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Linton, which is in a Westphalian D mire/swamp coal in Ohio.
It was synonymized subjectively with Brachydectes newberryi by Pardo and Anderson (2016).
