Taxonomy

Pholidogaster pisciformis was named by Huxley (1862). Its type specimen is B.M. (N.H.) R30534, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

Synonyms

Otocratia modesta was named by Watson (1929). Its type specimen is NMS G.1870.14.440, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Burdiehouse Limestone, Burdiehouse, near Edinburgh, which is in a Visean terrestrial shale in the United Kingdom.

It was synonymized objectively with Pholidogaster pisciformis by Clack and Milner (2015).
