Taxonomy
Placenticeras costata was named by Herrick and Johnson (1900). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Herrickiceras costatus by Kennedy and Simmons (1991); it was recombined as Herrickiceras costatum by Cobban and Hook (1980), Sealey and Lucas (2019).
