Brevitricolpites microechinatus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 28563.
Paratypes: UFP 15, 4.1 x 87; UFP 15, 6.5 x 86.7.
]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 15, 14.1 x 87.5, a microspore (Pollen grain).
