Echinatisporis brevispinosus was named by Jaramillo and Dilcher (2001) [Paratypes: UFP 34, 6.3 x 98.5; UFP 57, 21.2 x 90. Type locality: Piñalerita Creek near Sabanalarga. PaleoDB number 29079. Dimension in equatorial view.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is UFP 49, 9.4 x 84.5, a microspore.
