Multioistodus was named by Cullison (1938) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Llde-u Sepkoski's reference number: 800]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Multioistodontidae.

It was assigned to Multioistodontidae by Sweet (1988), Pyle and Barnes (2002); and to Conodontophorida by Sepkoski (2002).
