Ammonites harpax was named by Stoliczka (1864).

It was recombined as Eucalycoceras harpax by Porthault et al. (1966); it was recombined as Pseudocalycoceras (Pseudocalycoceras) harpax by Thomel (1972); it was recombined as Pseudocalycoceras harpax by Thomel (1969), Wright et al. (1996), Ahmad et al. (2013).
