Taxonomy
Didymoceras aurarium was named by Kennedy et al. (2000). Its type specimen is USNM 476086, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS locality D 2599, which is in a Campanian marine siliciclastic in the Pierre Shale Formation of Colorado.
