Taxonomy

Thelodontiformes was named by Kiaer (1932).

It was assigned to Thelodontomorphi by Soehn et al. (2001); to Pteraspidomorphi by Sepkoski (2002); to Thelodonta by Long (2011); to Thelodonti by Nelson et al. (2016); and to Thelodonti by van der Laan (2019).

Synonyms

Thelodontida was named as a superclass. It is not extant.

It was reranked as the order Thelodontida by Sansom and Elliott (2002); it was synonymized subjectively with Thelodontiformes by Nelson et al. (2016).

It was assigned to Thelodonta by Obruchev (1964); to Thelodonti by Sansom and Elliott (2002); and to Craniata by Long (2011).
Coelolepidiformes was named by Berg (1937).

It was synonymized subjectively with Thelodontiformes by Soehn et al. (2001), Nelson et al. (2016).
