Levizygopleura williamsi

Taxonomy
Pseudozygopleura (Pseudozygopleura) williamsi was named by Knight (1930) [Pseudozygopleura (Pseudozygopleura) williamsi Knight 1930]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is SL-1. Headwaters of Feefee Creek, north of Olive St. & west of Lindberg Blvd., 1.5 km northwest of Stratmann (Olivette), which is in a Moscovian offshore shale in the Appanoose Formation of Missouri. It is the type species of Levizygopleura.

It was recombined as Pseudozygopleura williamsi by Yochelson and Saunders (1967), Kulas and Batten (1997); it was recombined as Microptychis williamsi by Hoare and Sturgeon (1981), Kues and Batten (2001); it was recombined as Levizygopleura williamsi by Bandel (2002), Wagner (2023).

R. L. Batten 1995Elongate, conical, high-spired shells without adult ornament other than growth lines. Protoconch heterostrophic at about 90˚ from adult axis. Three postembryonic whorls have arcuate collabral costae with indication at midwhorl of spiral element. Adult whorl profile is slightly inflated with broad periphery low on whorl. Whorls embrace just below periphery on basal margin. Growth lines slightly arcuate. Anomphalus. Base evenly rounded.
