Taxonomy
Ectypodus riansensis was named by Marandat et al. (2012). Its type specimen is MNHN RI 273, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rians, which is in an Eocene terrestrial horizon in the Lignites de Soissonais Formation of France.
