Pleurotoma granata was named by Edwards (1861) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Epalxis (Bathytoma) granata by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995); it was recombined as Bathytoma granata by Powell (1966), Jeffery and Tracey (1997).
