It was assigned to Pycnodontes by Arambourg and Joleaud (1943), Nursall (1996); to Pycnodontiformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pycnodontidae by Woodward (1895), Hay (1902), Tabaste (1963), Kriwet (1999), Poyato-Ariza and Wenz (2002), Argyriou (2022).
