Anomites transversalis was named by Wahlenberg (1818). Its type specimen is RMS Br 102394 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Plectambonites transversalis by Hall and Clarke (1894); it was recombined as Sowerbyella transversalis by Jones (1928); it was recombined as Plectodonta transversalis by Kozlowski (1929); it was recombined as Ygera transversalis by Havlicek (1967); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta transversalis by Bassett and Cocks (1974); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta (Eoplectodonta) transversalis by Musteikis and Cocks (2004), Rubel (2011).
