Viatkogorgon was named by Tatarinov (1999). It is not extant. Its type is Viatkogorgon ivakhnenkoi.

It was assigned to Phthinosuchidae by Ivakhnenko (2003); and to Gorgonopsia by Kammerer and Masyutin (2018).
