Taxonomy

Trionyx capellinii was named by Negri (1892). Its type specimen is MGP-PD 12883, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Monte Purga, Vestenanova di Bolca, which is in an Eocene estuary/bay horizon in Italy.

It was recombined as Trionyx (Amyda) capellinii by Bergounioux (1954).
