Archaeotherium calkinsi
Taxonomy
Elotherium calkinsi was named by Sinclair (1905). Its type specimen is UCMP 953, a partial skeleton (cranium and mandibIe, several cervical vertebrae and portions of fore and hind limbs), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is near Hatch's Gulch, which is in an Arikareean terrestrial horizon in the John Day Formation of Oregon.
It was recombined as Daeodon calkinsi by Peterson (1909); it was recombined as Choerodon calkinsi by Troxell (1920), Troxell (1920), Troxell (1920); it was considered a nomen dubium by Carroll (1988); it was recombined as Archaeotherium calkinsi by Foss and Fremd (1998).
