It was assigned to Blennioidei by Agassiz (1835); to Tetradontiformes by Sepkoski (2002); to Spinacanthidae by Santini and Tyler (2003); and to Protobalistidae by Tyler and Santini (2002), Carnevale et al. (2014), Bannikov (2014).
