Eurhinosaurus was named by Abel (1909) [Sepkoski's age data: J Toar-l]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Cymbospondylidae by von Huene (1951); to Leptopterygiidae by Carroll (1988); to Eurhinosauria by Motani (1999); to Ichthyosauria by Sepkoski (2002); to Neoichthyosauria by Sander (2000), Fischer et al. (2013); and to Leptonectidae by Maisch and Matzke (2000), McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010), Reisdorf et al. (2011), Ji et al. (2016).
