Leptaena duvalii was named by Davidson (1847). Its type specimen is B 13730, a valve (pedicle valve), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Sowerbyella duvali by Jones (1928); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta duvalii by Cocks (1970), Bassett and Cocks (1974); it was recombined as Plectodonta duvali by Manten (1971); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta duvali by Curtis (1972); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta (Eoplectodonta) duvalii by Davidson (1847), Rubel (2011).
