Turbinella crassitesta was named by Gabb (1869).

It was recombined as Retipirula crassitesta by Waring (1917), Nelson (1925), Stewart (1927), Saul and Squires (2008).

L. R. Saul and R. L. Squires 2008Medium-sized, pyriform shell with moderately elevated, tabulated spire. Whorls roundly inflated with sculpture of six to seven spiral cords strongly noded at intersections with colllabral costae; distinctly finer unnoded cords on siphonal neck.
